Building 23 at ANSTO is used to produce generators that transport nuclear medicine to more than 200 hospitals and nuclear medicine facilities around the country and region.

The building dates to the 1960s and will end its useful life within the next five-ten years. This year’s federal budget provided funding to support the development of a business case to consider the options available to secure the long-term sustainability of nuclear medicine supply in Australia.

Tc-99m Generator Advisory Monday Sep 23, 2019 13:00hrs

23 September 2019

Working Group members were advised by ANSTO today that there is an expected shipment of Mo-99 from NTP (South Africa) arriving on Monday afternoon. This will give around 40% of the normal amount that is usually available in Australia. The Mo-99 arriving today will be manufactured into generators on Tues and Wed for delivery on Wed and Thursday respectively. This week GMS and all regional and rural areas will receive generators, while metropolitan sites will mostly stay on supply from GMS. In total, up to nearly 90 generators will be dispatched this week.
