Tc-99m Generator Advisory
Thursday Oct 31, 2019 17:00hrs
The Working Group have just had an update from ANSTO on the current status of generator supply and repairs to the ANM processing cell.
Week commencing Monday Nov 4: ANSTO will be providing generators to all customers for next week either today, Friday or on Monday Nov 4. Due to a favourable alignment of the planets ANSTO was able to source a full amount of Mo99 as for normal production, so that 100% of sites will receive an ANSTO generator with 100% of requested radioactivity.
Week commencing Monday Nov 11: ANSTO has placed overseas orders for Mo99 for generators to be used in week commencing Mon Nov 11. At this stage they are expecting to receive approx. 70% of the usual domestic supply. This will be a similar level to the past few weeks. We will advise if there are any updates to this.
Repair of ANM Facility: The faulty valve on the dissolution cell has been replaced and the reinstallation of the shielding has commenced. This timeline is as previously advised and there have been no significant delays at this stage. A return to full local production is on track for mid-to-late November.
ANSTO have also asked that people have a look at the advisory that has been distributed by GMS about the evacuated vials they supply for the ANSTO generator. They want to ensure sustainability and have asked members not to return unused vials back to ANSTO along with the generators as they cannot be used once they have left the ANSTO site.
We will continue to provide updates in the following weeks as we receive the information.
NB: This document contains the advice given to ANSTO by the Working Group of AANMS/ANZSNM/RAINS. ANSTO is not required to follow any of the group’s suggestions.
