Update on Radiopharmaceutical Supply
Monday Mar 16, 2020 15:00hrs
We have recommenced discussions of the Working Group including ANSTO regarding possible threats to radiopharmaceutical supply in the coming months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All workplaces should anticipate a significant impact on their workforce during this time, and the ANSTO production line for radiopharmaceuticals is unlikely to be spared.
ANSTO have advised that they are prioritising the provision of nuclear medicine supplies. In particular, the possible impact on Tc99m generators, I-131 and Lu-177 are being assessed. While ANSTO can control internal processes to some extent, external interruptions to imported precursor materials and reagents may see shortages in some radiopharmaceuticals become unavoidable.
It is also likely that imported radiopharmaceuticals from other suppliers apart from ANSTO may experience shortages as well.
We will continue to meet regularly and keep the membership updated.
