Update on Radiopharmaceutical Supply
Wednesday July 15, 2020 14:00hrs
ANSTO Health advised the Working Group late yesterday of a failure in molybdenum refining in their ANM facility. In the current case the levels of I-131 contamination were too high. The source is being investigated but is thought to be from the chemical separation columns used to extract the Mo-99 and separate it from other radiocontaminants.
The impacts are as follows:
- Only 7 of 58 generators that would have been dispatched on Thursday (16/07) for Friday delivery have been manufactured. Six of these have been sent to GMS in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide;
- The 51 delayed generators will be dispatched on Sunday night for Monday delivery. A further 19 generators will be sent to GMS on Sunday night. This means that 51 generators that would normally have been dispatched on Sunday night to regular customers will be delayed;
- The 51 generators delayed from the Sunday/Monday delivery will now be dispatched on Tues evening for Wed delivery;
- By Thursday all should be back on schedule.
The Working Group will continue to meet with ANSTO as required and provide updates.
